The Medicines: Psilocybin

Wow. Where to begin? Those of you who have experienced this miraculous and mystifying medicine will appreciate my question. I’ll start with the easy part. The mushroom journey is a very consistent 4-6 hours in length, with no somatic aftereffects of any note. Sometimes there is a little light nausea at the take-off, but different delivery methods are good at mitigating this.

There is so much to say about this spectacular medicine, from how it may have come to us, to how it meshes with human evolution, to its role in healing.

There is a reason that this medicine is so helpful with end-of-life issues. It is remarkable at calming anxiety about that final (maybe) transition, as it gives us an immersive experience of what we are actually a part of. This same experience is very transformative in all stages of adult life. The problem of disconnection is one of the core troubles we experience in life. We feel more and more disconnected from all we are part of, and life begins to contract around our physical form. This leaves many with a feeling of existential aloneness, asking the question, “Is this all there is?”

Mushrooms show us that it is most definitely NOT all there is! That LOVE is all there is. Not a bad message if you ask me, and I don’t know of a truer one.

There are a few delivery methods with this medicine that change its characteristics to a certain degree. If you pre-convert the psilocybin to psilocin by using lemon juice, for example, you get a faster onset with a steeper launch. I find that chocolate does just the opposite, creating a slower onset and a more gradual slope on either side of the journey’s peak. This is just my experience and others may experience it differently.

At Shungo Tours, we facilitate safe, loving, and transformational journeys with this divine medicine. Always with the most experienced and compassionate facilitators and in some of the world’s most sacred locations.

As always, we need to point out that these are very powerful medicines and we never recommend using them without experienced and compassionate support! If you do choose to wander off on your own, please reach out if you get into trouble and we’ll do what we can to help.
